Elsie L. Foudree, 92, passed away Sunday, March 25, 2012, at Taylor House Hospice.
Elsie was born October 1, 1919, in Creston, Iowa, to Ray and Mary (Estes) Markus. She had lived in the Des Moines area for over 50 years, and was a member of Aurora Avenue Bible Church. She had a very strong faith in God. Elsie and her daughter Linda were always together throughout life.
Elsie is survived by her daughters, Betty (Larry) Wilber, Linda Foudree, Carol Jennings and Susan Brown; son, Fred Foudree; brother, Ray Markus; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Willis Alvin Foudree; brother, Earl; and sisters, Marian, Opal, and Avis Marie.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, March 28, 2012, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, at the funeral home. Elsie will be laid to rest next to her husband at Glendale Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Aurora Avenue Bible Church.

My deepest sympathy goes out to all of Elsie's children and in-laws. She truly did have a deep relationship with God and was committed to HIM. She also had a compassionate heart to anyone who needed help of any kind. We'll all miss Elsie very much.

Dear Betty, Linda, Carol, Susan and Fred...
Our thoughts and feelings go from sadness to praise to the Lord as we think of your dear mother. It's wonderful to imagine her in the very presence of her Lord, no longer suffering in any way. Truly, she is blessed to now know what eyes on this earth have not seen nor ears heard nor entered into hearts what God has prepared for those who love Him.
We've known and fellowshipped with your mother and family for many years. She has certainly been a faithful follower of the Lord. Seems she seldom missed church for any reason. She was an inspiration to us.
We're sorry Wendell and I are not able to attend the funeral tomorrow but are praying and trusting the Lord for the comfort and peace only He can give in the loss of your mother's presence--hard for us but for her infinitely better. And some day we'll be together again!

I knew Elsie for many years; I lived in the Drake/Roosevelt area and met her when she delivered our paper. Elsie was an extremely interesting and hard-working woman. We had many conversations, usually about our families. I have often thought about her over the years. I am so sorry to hear of Elsie's death. My sympathies go out to her family.
