Mae Kennedy passed away on Thursday, March 22, 2012, at her home. Mae was born on September 5, 1926, in Dubuque to Claude and Esther Douglas.
Mae married the love of her life, Donald, on July 3, 1949, in The Little Brown Church in Nashua. Mae enjoyed reading mysteries, Betty Boop, the Atlanta Braves and laughing with Maxine. Most of all she loved e-mailing her kids.
Mae leaves behind her children, John (Sally), Donna (Tom) Carroll, Gary (Kathy), Bobby, and Mary (Keith) Shoemaker; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; brothers, Clarence (Verna) and Ron (Joyce) Douglas; and cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Donald; her parents and brother, Dean.
A visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday, March 26, 2012, at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. A private family burial will follow.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Heart Association in memory of Mae.

Mama, I Love You. I am so glad that you brought me into your life. Now you and daddy are together again. However, there is the void that you have brought to our lives. I wish I would have talked to you more, but like some people know about me, is that I don't talk much because I am a better listener and I listened to you and tried to be the best person that you and dad would want me to be. I thank all the family and freinds that you have touched in your life who have expressed their sympathy at this time. My last wish for you is that the ANGEL ALWAYS BE ON YOUR SHOULDER! Love you so much and miss you so much. I thank the good Lord for the parents I had.

My mom Mary Dittmer has no computer access. She wanted to tell the Kennedy family how sorry she was to hear of your loss. She knows it is a difficult thing to go through. Try to remember how happy Mae now that she has been reunited with Don.

John & family, It is so hard to know what to say about someone you've never met, however after seeing your posts on facebook periodically, I can tell that your Mother loved & was proud of her family. It is so tough to lose a parent, but she is @ peace now & reunited with your Dad for eternity. Our prayers to you all.

To all my in-laws: You had an amazing mother. I never received anything but kindness from her. She always mad me wonder what was wrong with all these people on talk shows that could not get along with their Mother-In-Law. She was always so kind and had a great sense of humor. I loved her alot and will miss her terribly. Thank you all for letting me be a part of your family.

Our Prayers are with you and your family . I will miss Mae and the opportunity to meat her in person. We did keep in touch by e-mail. She was kind enough to send me some family pictures that she found in her parents papers. I will miss her and wish you all the best in life.

Kennedy Family, my deepest sympathy to you all. Mae was a loving Mother and Wife, I got to witness this many times when I was welcomed into her home when I was a child and friends with Mary. She treated me with love and kindness. I am sure she will be terribly missed. God Bless you all and you are in my prayers.
