Doris (Wilson) Allen died Monday March 19, 2012, in Urbandale, Iowa, after a long illness, at the age of 90. She was born on February 22, 1922, to John and Violet Wilson in Birkenhead, England. She was the eldest of three sisters. Her sisters’ names are Violet Butler and Phyllis Merry.

While serving as a WRN (Women’s Royal Navy) during World War II, she was stationed at Bletchly Park where the code used by German Submarines was broken. She met John Allen, from Chariton, Iowa, who was in the 8th Air Force. They were married in England on July 15, 1944. They lived most of their lives in Chariton, Iowa, where they were members of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Doris also worked as secretary for the Lucas County Superintendent of Schools. They later moved to Des Moines. They had three daughters; Diane Barton of Des Moines, Iowa, Suzanne Booth (now deceased) and Carol Anne Tschudy, of Baudette, Minnesota.

Doris was an avid gardener, especially of flowers and roses. She enjoyed reading, sewing, in early years making her daughters dresses and later on quilts.

John died in 2006, and her daughter Suzanne died in 2011. Doris was also preceded by her parents, her sister Phyllis, a grandson, and a son-in-law. She is survived by her daughters, Diane Barton and Carol Anne Tschudy, six grandchildren, and seven great-granddaughters.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, March 24, 2012, at the Chariton Christian Church in Chariton, Iowa.
