William “Bill” Shortell, 64, passed away Sunday, March 18, 2012, in the presence of loved ones at home.
Bill is survived by his loving wife, Mary; son, Shawn (Jenny) Shortell; step-children, Adam and Amanda Roquet; five grandchildren; three sisters, Christine (Drew) Shortell McDonough, Eileen (Merle) Shortell Hicks and Diane Shortell McClung (Leonard Waldorf); many nieces and nephews; step-father, Bill Dunn; other loving relatives and many special friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Betty Dunn and Raymond Shortell, and his mother-in-law, Lorene Wiskerchen.
He retired from Qwest Communications after 39 years of faithful service.
Memorial services will be 2 p.m., Friday, March 23, 2012, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines. The family will greet friends from 12 to 2 p.m. Friday, at the funeral home prior to the service. Casual attire…no ties for Bill.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family for his five beautiful grandchildren. Bill’s strength, courage and love will stay with friends and family forever.

Mrs Shortell-
I am an old acquaintance of Bill's and also knew his father Ray through my career at NWB, US WEST and Qwest. I did not know Bill really well but he seemed like a really great guy and all of the people I knew who worked with him had nothing but respect for him. Please accept my deepest sympathies for your loss. I will remember Bill in my thoughts and prayers.
