Winifred Idella Richardson-Flowers was born to Benjamin and Viola Richardson on July 4, 1926. She began her journey home on March 15, 2012. Winifred is now with her Savior. Preceding her in death were her parents; son, Michael Smith; and daughter, Denise Smith.

Winifred was educated in Des Moines Public Schools, and was employed by J. I. Case for 10 years. She then became a homemaker and later worked as an attendant at Keck Parking Center. She enjoyed the company of others, loved to talk and listen, and was always able to find the best in any person that she encountered. Winifred never met a person she didn’t like.

She leaves to cherish her memory her sons, Robert (Sheryl) Champion and James Smith; grandchildren, Jeremy Champion-Polson, Anthony Champion-Polson, and Amber Champion; seven great-grandchildren; and a host of beloved nephews, nieces, and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m., Monday, March 19, 2012, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street in Des Moines. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, at the funeral home.
