Jerry Fales, 84, passed away from a heart attack on Wednesday, March 14, 2012, at his home in Des Moines. He was born December 8, 1927, to Melvin and Gladys Fales.
He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Jerry worked as a barber for over twenty years and later retired from Iowa Realty, after more than 20 years of employment. Jerry was a great outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing and hunting. He loved baseball and was an avid Chicago Cubs and Iowa Hawkeyes fan.
Jerry is survived by his children, Stacey Fales, Debbie (Dane) Shearer, and Melissa (Clint) Martin; four grandchildren Scott (Jenny) Fales, Jonathan Shearer, Lucas Martin and Lilyana Martin; and two great-grandchildren, Lynleigh and Lola Fales. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers Doyle, Wayne, and John.
Memorial services will be 10 a.m., Monday, March 19, 2012, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue, Des Moines. The family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m. Sunday, March 18, at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa in loving memory of Jerry.

Our deepest sympathies go out to Jerry's family. We knew Jerry for many years as a "friend of a friend", then as a realtor. He was very thoughtful and went out of his way to help us. He has a great since of humanity.

Stacey, Sherry and I are sad to hear of the loss of your father. I remember your kindness in being able to attend my parent's funerals but unfortunatly will be unable to return the favor due to my client schedule. I remember the kindness of your dad when I needed a sudden hair cut when I was in high school. He took me to his shop off hours to cut my hair during a last minute need. Give your family my regards. Tell Scott we still have lunker trout down here at Bennitt Springs The lucky ol SOB. I still have have not caught one like he did. I was there for opening day and last week.
