Gary E. Schmidt

Gary Schmidt, 60 died of cancer, Wednesday, March 14, 2012, at Ramsey Village in Des Moines.

He was born September 10, 1951, in Belle Fourche, South Dakota, the son of Alexander and Betty Jean Dick. Gary lived most of his life in Cedar Rapids.

Gary is survived by his sons, Jason (Kim) Schmidt of Helotes, Texas, and Robert Schmidt of Cedar Rapids, and two sisters, Jane Frost (Robert) of Waterloo, and Candi Friel (Michael) of Ohio.

Preceded in death by his mother, Betty Jean, his father, Alexander, his sister, Pamela Caughron, and an infant daughter, Heather Schmidt.

Gary joined the Marine Corps in 1973. He worked with Smitty's Road Oil Service, and then Safety Clean where he was a national education and driver trainer.

Memorial services will be held 11 a.m., Monday, March 19, 2012, at the Cedar Falls Am-Vets.
