Bonnie Whitcomb, 65, passed away March 12, 2012. She was born in Fairfield, Iowa, and lived in Des Moines for over 30 years. Bonnie was previously married to Carroll Harwood, and later married to Jerry Whitcomb.
Bonnie is survived by five children, Scott Harwood, Steve (Cindy) Harwood, Stacey (Doug) Lupher, Michelle (Chad) Briley and Kimberly (Matt) Wells; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and many family and friends who loved her very much.
Bonnie’s body has been cremated, and graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 15, 2012, at Avon Cemetery.

Bonnie was on my staff at the Womens Residential Correctional Facility for some time. I always enjoyed her a great deal. She was very level headed, consistent,sharp.....not letting the residents "snow" her and had a fun sense of humor. I could always count on her to be an asset on the staff.
I am very sorry to learn of her passing. I will remember her as my being a better person for having known her.

I just opened the Fairfield Ledger and was shocked when I saw that Bonnie had passed away. I enjoyed the times that we spent together when we were kids. It always made me happy when she would let us pick her up for a family dinner although they were few. My father and Bonnie's father were brothers. I am retiring in June and one of the things on my list was to try and contact her. I am sad that it will never happen. My heartfelt sympathy goes out to all of you. I have thought about her so many times over the years as Scott is aware of. I wish I could have known her and all of you in the past years. I know she was wonderful person. May God bless all of you.
