Mary Louise Murillo, 75, was born September 7, 1936, in Des Moines, the daughter of Alberta and Leon Limke. She passed away peacefully Thursday, March 8, 2012, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center.
Mary was a very talented artist and loved bird watching and feeding stray creatures. She was a great homemaker and enjoyed cooking. Above all else, Mary cherished the time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Mary is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Abel Murillo; children, David (Linda) Murillo, Theresa (Tony) Ayala, Liz (Darryl) Olson, Chris (Margo) Murillo and Pat (Tracy) Murillo; fourteen grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three brothers; one sister; numerous nieces and nephews; other loving relatives and many, many special friends.
Per Mary’s wishes, cremation has occurred and there are no services planned at this time. Memorial contributions may be made to the family in loving memory of Mary.

Nothing that I can say will ever feel the void and the emptiness in My heart of losing My Mom, She was the best Mom in the world and she was a Wonderful Grandma to all her Grandkids. I will miss her everyday for the rest of My life till the Day I can see her again. It is hard not to be able to pick up the phone just to call her as I did everday, I know that She is in a much better place now, Love to her always, Her daughter, Theresa.

My grandmother was an amazing woman....she was many things. A wife, mother, friend but to a select lucky few of us she was a Grandmother. My Grandma made all of her grandchildren feel special, she encouraged our talents, listened to us talk about our lives and rooted her place in our hearts as Nana. I will miss my multiple weekly visits, hours of conversation and hearing about the lifetime she built with my Grandfather and of all her youthly shenanigans. She passed along so much to her entire clan...her artistic talents are seen through Patrick, Brian and Joey. Her ability to cook through Liz and her daughter in law Linda. Her quick wit and wicked sense of humor with David and Theresa. Her kind heart with Chris and Maddie. There are so many other things my Grandma passed on to all of her loving family. She truly was the epitomy of family and held ours together. She will be greatly missed from this point forward and I know thought of often by all 32 of us that were blessed enough to call her mom and Nana.
I love you Nana, the impact you made on my life was one with magnitude you can not comprehend. Thank you for being my best friend.

Several years ago, someone dropped an Australian blue heeler pup off near my Mom and Dad's house. "Ralph" became the name of this homeless little pooch and he decided quickly that Mary Murillo's house wasn't a bad place to call home after she would feed him leftovers every night for supper. All summer long during the day Ralph would lie next to my Mom and Dad while they sat in their lawn chairs. Come evening would hop onto my Dad's garden tractor seat in the garage and go to sleep. As fall approached, my Mom called me one day and said that if someone didn't come get this "damned dog" and give him a home for the winter she was going to call the "pound" to come get him. This was Mary Murillo's way of setting Mr. Ralph up for the long haul because Ralph has lived with me now for 2 years and he has it better than the law allows. If you knew Mary Murillo you were a better person because of the friendship, care and compassion she extended to all who knew her, just ask Ralph. If you were her husband, son, daughter, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, grandchild, great-grandchild, brother or sister, then no one has to ever tell you what the definition of unconditional love is.

I was so sorry to hear about Mary's death. She gave to all of us who knew her and was an inspiration during her illness, as were you all. Being in the "public eye" when there is an illness isn't easy, but she handled it well. We all miss her. She raised her children with love, and her grandchildren were so lucky she was their grandmother. May the memories and the knowledge that she is healed, no pain, reunions with those who have gone before, and she's entertaining folks in heaven. She was a blessing.
