Richard "Dick" L. Messer

Richard L. Messer, 73, died Sunday, March 4, 2012, at Carlisle Care Center. He was born January 28, 1939 to Lawrence and Loyal Messer in Beaver Dam, WI.

Richard graduated from Beaver Dam High School and served in the US Marines Corps. He moved to the Altoona area in 1980 where he owned and operated a Phillips 66 station. Richard retired from Mid-States Ford in 2004, and most recently, worked at the Altoona Wal-Mart. Richard enjoyed gardening, his cats and dogs, and spending time with his family.

Richard is survived by his wife of 39 years, Jeanette Messer of Altoona; daughters, Lori (Ken) Russell and Kelly (Bob) Buechler, both of Decatur, IL; son, Mathew Messer of Altoona; grandchildren, Jessica, Jordan (Michelle), Sierra, and Sydney; sisters, Shirley Leininger of West Bend, WI and Donna McLaughlin of Marathon, FL; and a host of other family and beloved friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and son, Aaron Messer.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 7, 2012 at Hamilton’s Altoona Funeral Home, 105 4th Street SW, with burial to follow at Altoona Cemetery. Family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Rescue League in loving memory of Richard.
