Pershing L. “Jack” Avritt, Jr., 64, passed away at his home March 3, 2012, after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease.

Jack was born July 9, 1947, in Des Moines, to Pershing and Marjorie Avritt, Sr. He attended Central Texas College and served in the U.S. Army from 1967 to 1991, retiring as a First Sergeant. Jack was attached to Ft. Campbell Hospital in Clarksville, TN. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Masonic Order and Za-Ga-Zig Shrine.

Jack is survived by his loving wife of 14 years, Angela Avritt; children, Stephanie Thorpe of Ankeny, Sony Steier of Louisville, KY, Peter Avritt of Louisville, KY and Margarett Avritt of Des Moines; brothers, Joe Avritt and Gordon Avritt both of Des Moines; sisters, Barbara Naset, Judy Avritt and Nina Hall, all of Des Moines and Dorothy Avritt of Osceola, IA; and 11 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Tina Avritt; and brother, Albert Avritt.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, March 7, 2012, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, followed by burial at Glendale Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, at the funeral home.
