Service Details
James Van Dyke, 77, was born June 3, 1934, in Des Moines, and passed away at his home March 1, 2012. A memorial service is planned for 11 a.m., Monday, March 5, 2012, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street. Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, at the funeral home.
Jim served in the U.S. Army and was a retired painter. He married Fran Zachar May 24, 1958, in Des Moines. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Jim enjoyed movies, telling jokes and writing short stories.
Jim is survived by his children, Rick of West Des Moines, Tim (Kim) of Madrid and Kelli (Gary) Wulfekuhle of Ankeny; sisters, Ruth Grebenor of Orland Park, Illinois and Mary Buchanan of Florida; grandchildren, Jessica Van Dyke, Ryan Van Dyke, Zach Holton, Vanessa (Brady) Van Vark, Timothy “T.J.” Van Dyke, Alex Van Dyke, Joseph “Joey” Wulfekuhle and Halle Wulfekuhle; and three great-grandchildren.

we will all miss him with the smile that he had and the touching heart that we all know he had. He will be missed as part of the family but we all know he is safe in Heaven with our Heavenly father.

I was so Sad to hear of your dad's passing. I have some wonderful memores of him, most of them involve he and my dad laughing that infectious laugh. Please know that Jeanine, Tom, Ruth and I send our deepest sympathies. I was so greatful when he and Tim came to Wyoming for Dad's funeral, it meant alot. So Sorry we cant be there, know that we are thinking of you all.

Jim was my favorite uncle, his sense of humor and wit was great. I'll never forget his infectious laugh! Or the family reunions where he would crack everyone up!
He will be missed.

Jim was a joy to know. I was very fortunate to have shared in his jokes. I loved it when he said "BEAUTIFUL"then he would start cracking up! Loved him.

I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your Dad and always my "Favorit Uncle"
There are so many good times that we all can remember. How can we ever forget all the JOKES.. he was always full of a half a dozen good jokes if not more :) I will truly miss him as he is the last of the Brothers. Time seems to get away from us all and I realize that more as I have gotten older. My deepest sympathy goes out to all of you. It is a very hard thing that we have to do :( Just rememeber the many times that he made us all laugh and hold that dear to your heart. Love to you all!
