Service Details

Nick Claussen, 29, passed away unexpectedly March 1, 2012. He was born October 12, 1982, in Des Moines, to Steve and Linda Claussen.

Nick was a 2001 graduate of Southeast Polk High School, and a 2006 graduate of Iowa State University with a bachelor’s degree in Management Information Systems. During his school days Nick was active in many ways. He ran cross country and track at SE Polk. He studied Tae Kwon Do. He enjoyed playing hockey, both in the rink and on the ice. He was also a part of the drumlines in the SE Polk and ISU. At ISU, he was part of a student percussion club “ISU Groove.”

While at ISU, Nick met the love of his life: Amanda Frerichs. He married her on September 6, 2008, on the ISU campus. They settled in Overland Park, KS, where Nick used his talents with computers, networking, and security in his career pursuits.

Nick was an avid movie collector, his collection would make many a person envious. He enjoyed following ISU athletics with his wife, when they could catch a game; and they rarely missed a NASCAR race. Nick also had a “slight” obsession with rubber duckies.

Nick had a no-nonsense sense of humor that kept his family and friends continually on their toes and will live on in their hearts and minds for years to come. He was a faithful husband, son, brother, friend, and man who will be greatly missed.

Left to cherish Nick’s memory are his wife, Amanda of Overland Park, KS; parents, Steve and Linda Claussen of Altoona; sister, KC Claussen of Ankeny; grandparents, Marian Nelson of Humboldt, IA; Warren and Carol Claussen of Ogden, IA; parents-in-law, Daryl and Diane Frerichs of Estherville, IA; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.

Nick was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Russell Nelson.
