Mark A. Stone
February 28, 2012
Mark Stone, 42, died at his home due to complications of type 1 diabetes. Mark was born May 20, 1969 to Karyn and Raymond Stone in Des Moines.
With his family, Mark could be counted on for the most clever comments, the funniest birthday cards, and for showing up first for get-togethers. As an avid reader and movie buff, he was someone who always had something thought provoking to say. He had a passion for the outdoors- hunting, fishing and just being outside; this was something special he shared with his dad.
Mark’s career was spent at the Department of Natural Resources’ Air Quality Bureau. He was a Cyclone fan, and a graduate of Iowa State with a degree in Physics.
Mark is survived by his mother, Karyn; his sisters, Monica (Steve Repertinger) Stone, Malinda (Kevin) Thomas, and Michelle Marchesano; his nephew Nicholas Thomas; his nieces, Emily Thomas and Allie Marchesano; and his maternal grandmother, LaViece Barker; along with many aunts, uncles and cousins. We will all miss Mark.
He was preceded in death by his father, Raymond Stone; his grandparents Leonard and Lois Stone, and Clarence Barker, cousins, Nathan Hunter, Lila Barker, and Todd Stone.
Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 3rd at Hamilton’s, 121 NW 60th Ave. in Des Moines, with burial at Benton Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 2, 2012 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the family in memory of Mark.

Karen and family,
I have worked with Mark since 1998 and came to know him as a brilliant person with witty responses. I will truly miss his humor during lunch time and his uncanny ability to bid or set someone from out of the blue during six handed euchre.
I will miss his knowledge on the air program. I will also miss his stories of fishing or hunting success or lack thereof.
He was a friend I will not forget.
If there is ever anything now or in the future you need please do not hesitate to contact me and I will do my best to assist you.
With Deepest Sympathy,
Aaron

Im very sorry to learn of Marks passing. He was a friend and colleague of mine for many years. We actually lived in the same apartment complex (Country Club Estates) while we worked together at the IDNR Air Quality Bureau. I have many fond memories of Mark that I will cherish going forward. Mark was kind and intelligent. Ill miss his pithy comments and infectious smile. Please accept my sincere condolences.

I am part of the regulated community that Mark worked with. His knowledge and dedication to the air testing program was far above what I am used to. These skills will be missed. Please accept my sincere condolences
