Norma Hannam
February 26, 2012
Norma J. Hannam died February 26, 2012. She was the cornerstone that glued the family together, and is now free from the grips of dementia. Norma was born on a working farm in Monroe, Iowa, to Mary and J. Orval Marshall. She held close to her heart and forever in her memory her siblings, Patricia, Bonnie, LeRoy and Eldon, always remembering the fun, laughter and comfort in their love.
Norma created her family with Walter E. Hannam in 1951, celebrating 40 years of marriage. She was a wonderful mother and role model to Billy, Nora Lee, Debbie (Dan) Davis of Des Moines, Denise (Nick) Nichols of Pleasantville and Dee Ann (Dave) Roach of Cumming. Her children will remember her gentle kiss on their forehead. Her family grew to include her precious grandchildren, Athena, Troy, Kelsey, Charlynne, Connor and four great-grandchildren, Phylicia, Summer, Gantry and Grayson.
She enjoyed her family and home, decorating with her collection of dolls, chickens and the early spring flowers. Bowling with Margie and talking on the phone with Ella. Ice cream was a must and driving her car gave her freedom to day dream. She enjoyed traveling with family from California to Florida.
Norma was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her children, Billy and Nora Lee and her grandson, Troy.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, February 29, 2012, at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street, with burial following at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Melrose. A visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

I was saddened to read of Norma's passing. Denise and I went to grade school together. We used to visit Norma and Walt with my dad, Richard Hilding. It was always a fun time. The entire family will be in my thoughts and prayers for the days, weeks, and months to come.
