Service Details

Donald R. Hamilton went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on May 16, 2007. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 19, 2007 at Union Park Baptist Church, E. 9th and Arthur Ave. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.
Born in Des Moines on January 24, 1927, Don lived there most of his life. He graduated from East High School in 1946 after serving two years in the United States Coast Guard during World War II. Don was a driver for Bruce Motor Freight and MidAmerican Lines, and he retired from the Iowa Department of Revenue.
He was a member of Union Park Baptist Church, the Coast Guard Combat Veterans Association and the American Legion. Don and his wife were foster parents for many years. He also served as church librarian and was an active volunteer in the Awana program. He found joy in his faith, grandchildren, traveling and driving.
Don is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Betty; four daughters, Nancy (Bill) Routt of Centennial, CO, Beverly (Rob) Madsen of New Hope, MN, Donna (Tim) Kelley of Minnetonka, MN, and Tina (Donald) Britt of Des Moines; one son, Robert Hamilton of Des Moines; 11 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Ethel (Thompson) Hamilton Walker, and sisters Jacqueline Miller and Rose Denton.
