Shirley Silver

Shirley Ann Silver, 83, passed away Friday, February 17, 2012, at her home in Ankeny, Iowa. She was born December 15, 1928, in Bondurant, Iowa, to John and Elizabeth (Baer) Brown.
Shirley was a secretary at Ankeny High School for 27 years until her retirement in 1992. She enjoyed music, cooking, and reading, as well as spending time with her family, close friends and pets.
Shirley is survived by her husband, Keith; son, Doug Silver; daughter, Diane Silver; granddaughters, Lauren Silver and Kristen (Tim) Dolan; sister, Elva (Lee) Rummans; and sister-in-law, Ruby Brown. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Clarence Brown.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Friday, February 24, 2012, at Altoona United Methodist Church, 602 5th Avenue SW. A private family burial will be held at a later date at Berwick Cemetery.
The family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to the employees of Iowa Hospice Home Healthcare for their care and compassion toward Shirley.
Memorial contributions may be given to Altoona United Methodist Church or the Animal Rescue League in loving memory of Shirley.

Keith and family:
We learned of Shirley's passing and wanted to extend our sincere sympathy and condolences to you and your family. When we reflect on our years in Ankeny, the Silvers family is always remembered. Shirley was a fine lady and did a good job of keeping all of us in line at Ankeny high school. We fondly remember our times together. I'll (Gail) always remember Shirley's laugh, it was contagious. I'm sorry to hear of Shirley's passing. Please accept my condolences, as you are in my thoughts and prayers. I have to smile remembering Shirley and how she ran AHS. What a great person she was. It's true that we are the sum of our experiences and our acquaintances, and I'm grateful for Shirley's part in my life. I know I'm richer for it.

Doug.........I am very sorry to hear about your mom's passing. I miss my mother very much as well as you miss your mom. Point being is that you will have great memories to think about. She will be with you always.

I'm sorry to here of Shirley's passing. The family will be in my thoughts and prayers. Although I hadn't been in contact with the family in recent years I can remember the times that my dad and mother spent visiting with Keith and Shirley. I'm sure that she will be remembered as such a vibrant womam with family coming first.

I had the opportunity to meet Shirley on a couple of occasions. Although it was many years ago, I still remember thinking how she was a very nice and personable person.
