Don Hites

Don Hites, 53, of Des Moines, passed away Wednesday, May 16, 2007. Graveside service will be held 1:00 p.m. on Friday, May 18, 2007 at Laurel Hill Cemetery. A memorial service will be held 6:00 p.m. on Monday, May 21, 2007 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street.
Don was born in Des Moines, Iowa and lived most of his life here. He drove taxis, did manual labor, worked with troubled youths and was one the finest blues guitarist this city’s ever heard. Don always played from the heart. The passion, fire and emotion he channeled was incredible, and it came from a lifetime of living the blues.
Don was a generous friend, loving son, and caring father. He had a special place in the heart for dogs and his grandson Gage was the light of his life.
Don will be deeply missed by his son, Lathan Hites; daughter-in-law, Megan; grandson, Gage; brothers, Grover Kirkman, Mike Bitterman and Doug Hiple; and his lifelong friends and soulmates in music. They all take comfort in knowing that Don was born again and look forward to reuniting one day.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Merle and Helen Hites.
The family request instead of flowers memorial contributions maybe given to the family.
We love and miss you Don, may you rest in peace.
