Service Details

Ira Milton Martineau, 94, passed away at Trinity Center on Tuesday, February 14, 2012.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Monday, February 20, 2012, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, with burial following at Oakwood Cemetery. There will be a visitation from 4 to 6 p.m. the evening before, at the funeral home.

Milton was born on June 15, 1917, to Ira and Jennie (Harden) Martineau. He was a lifelong resident of Des Moines. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was a member of the Newton VFW Post and the Moose Lodge. He spent 405 days in combat during the three years he served. He was a member of the Philippine Liberation Forces. He fought at Luzon, Bougainville, and Manila, freeing the allied soldiers who were imprisoned from the Bataan Death March. Milton received the Bronze Star for his heroism in other actions.

Milton is survived by his children, Judy Tysver, Tom (Helen) Martineau, and Phyllis (Robert) Kujac; grandchildren, Kirstin, Kyle, Jeral (Darryl), and Matthew (Sarah); five great-grandsons, Nolan, Roan, Callan, Grayson, and Reed; sisters, Irene Baysinger and Jennie Lou Hankins; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dolores; three brothers; and one sister.
