George A. Davis

George A. Davis, 83, was born August 14, 1928, in Des Moines, the son of George and Pearl Davis. He passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family Sunday, February 5, 2012, at his home.
George worked for John Deere for 32 years until his retirement on September 1, 1987. He enjoyed collecting John Deere toy tractors. George loved telling stories and making people laugh. He always had a joke. “Have I told you this one before?” he would say. George was a loving father, grandfather, neighbor and friend. He loved people and helping them in whatever way possible.
George is survived by his loving wife of 63 1/2 years, Valera Davis; children, John Davis, Sandra Moreland (Jerry Jones), Larry Davis, Cathy (Robert) Leader, Ninette (Dennis) Moorman, Michael Davis; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and other extended family. He was preceded in death by his brother, Orion “Onnie” Davis; and his parents.
The family will greet friends from 6-8 p.m., Thursday, February 9, 2012, at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m., Friday, February 10, 2012, at the funeral home with burial to follow at Iowa Veterans Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Iowa Health Hospice in loving memory of George.

I had the honor of working with George from 1973 until his retired in 1987.
He was a wonderful person, with always some kind of joke to make you laugh.
He will be missed. My Prayers are with his family.

I remember George very fondly as he was a very witty man who always had a smile on his face.

I was in the maintanance dept and had the run of the plant so seen a lot of George as he was all over the plant.I He always smiled and waved or we stopped and shot the bull.He was always good for a laugh and he had an impish way about him.I'm so sorry for your loss but I will always remember George as somebody who always brought a smile.
