Permelia Ruth (Sutton) Jensen, age 94, died of natural causes February 1st at Ramsey Village, where she had lived for the past nearly four years. Ruth was born near Greenfield, Iowa, June 2, 1917, the eighth child born to George and Emma Mewhirter Sutton. She considered Greenfield home even though she lived various other places in Iowa, including Des Moines. Her happiest memories were from Greenfield. One such memory was of the Greenfield High School Band placing third in state contest. She played the clarinet.

On October 3, 1948, Ruth married Bill Jensen eventually settling on an acreage near Bondurant. They celebrated their fortieth anniversary in 1988, and a year later Ruth survived the loss of her husband. Prior to her move to Ramsey, she lived 18 years at Plymouth Place in Des Moines.

Ruth enjoyed church and office work as a young woman, worked in the mailing department at LOOK magazine and housekeeping work at Methodist and Mercy Hospitals and the DMACC auto mechanics lab prior to retirement.

Ruth is preceded in death by her parents and her seven siblings as well as her husband of 41 years, a niece, Nancy Bingaman (Bob) Mettetal of Arkansas, and nephew Harold (Joann) Bingaman of Oregon, as well as several great- and great-great nieces and nephews. She is survived by her step daughter Ann-Marie (Glenn) Baughman, a step son, John (Karen) Jensen of Des Moines and Ankeny. Her six grandchildren are John W. (Linda) Jensen of Ankeny, Kristen (Rishi) Jensen Shrivastava of Plymouth, MN., Ryan (Kristie Cairns) Jensen of Bondurant, Christian (Kelly) Baughman of Clive, Anne (Eric) Bandholz of Spokane, Drew (Victoria Bond) Baughman of New York City, and five great-grandchildren.

Services are planned for 1 p.m., Wednesday February 8th, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home 605 Lyon Street.
