With his parents by his side, Michael Christopher Gilchrist Moede, 13, went to be with his Good Shepherd on Thursday, January 26, 2012. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, February 4, 2012, at First Church of the Open Bible, 2200 Beaver Avenue, with burial following at North River Cemetery, rural Norwalk. A visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., Friday, February 3, 2012, at the church.
Michael loved the Lord Jesus Christ. He was homeschooled his whole life and greatly enjoyed God’s creation. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, hiking, painting, drawing and playing the piano.
Michael is survived by his father and mother, Paul and Joni Moede; his maternal grandparents, Ken Gilchrist and Elnor Gilchrist; his caring aunts and uncles, Nancy and Donald Wright, David and Sue Moede, Dan and Michelle Moede, Ralph and Katie Lane, KJ and Joni Gilchrist, Vicky and Rodger McKim and many extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Paul F. Moede, Jr., and Wanda Smith.
Michael’s wish was that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be sent to an orphanage in Mexico for handicapped children, c/o The Mission Applegate Christian Fellowship, P.O. Box 1090, Jacksonville, OR 97530.

Joni and Paul,
Michael was such a blessing to us at Iowa Right to Life. We rejoice that he is with Jesus but he will be greatly missed. We would like to honor Michael by establishing the Michael Moede award and giving it away to children who help out at the book sale. I will contact you at a later date with regards to this.

Michael, I will always miss you. You are a very funny and have a beautiful smile. Remember when we were little kids. We used to play after church at Rex Mathis. That was the best part of my day. But you just being you made me happy. All the happiness and joy that you gave me and everyone else that you met, will be missed. But all that joy and happiness that you gave, will be shared with our Lord Jesus Christ. I will miss you and when the Lord says it's time, I will be able to see you again. Until then, bye<3

Paul & Joni -
Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time. We have read Michael's Caring Bridge site over all these months, but posted only once. That was not because we didn't care - we really were at a loss for words. Your tremendous faith through all of this is amazing and can only be explained by your belief and trust in the promise of life-everlasting and the sacrifice of what Jesus did on the cross for us.
If weather permits next weekend, we will be in Des Moines and pay our respects in person. You raised an amazing son, who leaves behind a testimony of God's love for us - and who is celebrating with Jesus in his healed body. May you find rest and peace in the weeks and days ahead.

Paul and Joni out thoughts and prayers are with you and this sad time.
I remember when he was born because my daughter and he are a week apart in age. When I came back to work Paul and joked about the "cute couple" they were. Please know that we will continue to pray for you and have joy that Michael is in heaven. According to my girls he is sledding and having hot chocolate and treats as we speak.

We continue to pray for you. I am so happy the Lord answered your prayer to be able to say good-bye to Michael. I am sure heaven is so much more precious to you and you will enjoy heaven a little more each day as you think of Michael.

Joni and Paul: Praying for your comfort....of course I cannot know your pain, but I want you to know how much I admire you and Michael's strength. MANY people have been touched by his faithfulness and maturity as he was on this journey. Love you guys and will miss the sweetness of your beautiful son. It is so reassuring to know we will enjoy him again someday and he is in the presence of Christ.
