Service Details

Troy Lee Armel, 44, of Des Moines’s South Side, ended his journey on Earth on January 25, 2012 at Taylor House Hospice after a heroic battle with cancer.

After a lifetime of work outside the home, he became a wonderful housedad for the last few years of his life, taking care of his young daughter Montana. In his own words, “This is THE most fulfilling job I could ever imagine.” He enjoyed visiting the family lake home in Missouri, fishing, baseball, music, barbecues, picnics, sledding, all with family, and coloring with his daughter. Troy had many significant accomplishments in his lifetime, but none he would rather us focus on than his daughter. Troy met his wife Kendra while living in Phoenix, Arizona in 2000, and was able to celebrate their 10 year anniversary with her in the hospital on January 22,2012.

Troy was ever so grateful to all of the wonderful people who had helped him, including University of Iowa Hospital, American Cancer Society, Hope Lodge, Methodist Hospital, Taylor House Hospice, Lutheran Hospital Powell Center and his church family, as well as Alcoholics Anonymous.
