I cherish the walks we would take as children when he visited

To Nancy, Bryan, Jason, Friends and Family,
Marty was like the Biological Brother I never had. He was a True Brother in Spirit! We shared so many wonderful experiences over the years that I don't even know where to begin. However, one found memory that came to me after learning of Marty's passing and searching for words of comfort was this one...
Many years ago, Marty and I and several others attended a Mid-Night showing of Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory with Gene Wilder. I remember laughing so hard that our guts were aching! And then I found this... For some moments in life there are no words. ~David Seltzer, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. I know you're smiling at us as we share the fond memories you left with us all.
Another sentiment I found while searching was this one...
What moves through us is a silence, a quiet sadness, a longing for one more day, one more word, one more touch, we may not understand why you left this earth so soon, or why you left before we were ready to say good-bye, but little by little, we begin to remember not just that you died, but that you lived. And that your life gave us memories too beautiful to forget. ~By Prabhakar Pillai

As it gets closer to Friday the day family and friends gather to pay their respects to Marty "Papa" Merrifield I would like to share this poem I ran across on the internet that puts in perfect words how we feel about him. RIP Papa.
So heaven has received another angel
The night sky another star
Your life has become a loving memory
I know you will never be far.
I know you are watching over me
As my life goes on
I will treasure the memories I have of you
I cant believe your gone.
You were a loving caring grandad, dad and friend
You were there for me a lot
You will always hold a place in my heart
A loving treasured spot.
You were really one in a million
A cut above the rest
All that knew you would agree
You simply were the best.
So grandad, dad and friend I will say goodbye
I love and miss you with all my heart
But as long as I have my loving memories
We will never be too far apart.
You were the best Papa to Chella, Makyah, Zackery and Zayne and we will all miss you dearly.
Love,
Sarah

So sorry to hear about Martin's passing. We grew up in Cambridge, where the Merrifield family lived back in the 60s. Martin was a little younger than we were, but Jack, Jerry and Donna were in the teenage groups in town. Please express our sympathy to Jack and Donna as well as your whole family. We will keep all you in our prayers.

FULFILLMENT
Memories are those moments, we have locked within our mind.
About our times once shared together, with ones so gentle and so kind.
Reflecting back on our yesteryears, and the good in life he's done.
To those moments we had together, or just you and him, one on one.
You are a man who is loved by many, and your true legacy will still remain.
Marty may you rest in peace, knowing we all felt your pain.
Everything he could achieve, he had done that and more.
Regardless of the chores he faced, and that's what he lived for.
Responding to our greatest needs, he has always cared enough.
In many ways he will be here, when it comes to our family stuff.
Forever etched within our minds, our hearts won't let you go.
In spite of all the loss we feel, let it also help us to grow.
Every moment that we can share, with our loved ones still around.
Leaves within us the memories, of times that are so profound.
Dying is a part of life, but then living has been too.
REST assured while we're alive, we'll live for what you do.
IN our families, we live on, for each moment that is revealed.
PEACE of mind in knowing, that his life has been fulfilled.
Dedicated to my Uncle Marty:
How I wish, we all could have
spent more time around you...
