Egils Lavins

Egils Lavins, 64, was called to heaven on Friday, January 20, 2012. A graveside memorial service will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, June 16, 2012, in Ankeny, Iowa, at Oralabor Cemetery, officiated by Pastor Leo Pelds.

Egils was born on August 2, 1947, in Memmingen, Germany, to Edward and Skaidrite (Dimza) Lavins. He lived in Des Moines, Iowa, for most of his life.

Egils was preceded in death by his loving mother and father, and grandparents, Kristaps and Alide Dimza.

He is survived by sisters, Sandy Brill of DeForest, WI, and Linda Apinis of Hinckley, OH, and their families; his aunt and uncle, Gaida and Guntis Aulis of Evanston, IL; and his cousin, Erwin Aulis and family of Chicago, IL.

Egils also leaves behind his dear, long time friends, Rita, Connie, Isaac, Molly, Rick, Larry, and John who were always there for him.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Iowa Lutheran Hospital ICCU who provided Egils with excellent care and compassion during his final weeks.

Extreme heartfelt thanks is also extended to the MOSAIC program of Des Moines and all their staff, who provided unparalleled care, supports, services, programming, and a loving home for Egils.
