Randall "Randy" Petty
January 16, 2012
Randall Neil Petty, “Randy”, passed from life on January 17, 2012. Randy was born to parents Myron Neil and Lucille Petty in Southern Iowa where he grew up and attended school. As a young man of 17 he entered the military and served our country in Viet Nam.
In his career as a mechanic he worked at Starr Equipment, Wilson Railway and the City of Johnston. He especially loved working on trains.
He is remembered as a happy, gentle and polite person with a fun loving sense of humor who loved to help others and was so appreciative of anything others did for him. He enjoyed hunting golf, skiing and anything outdoors. Although he was a farm boy who didn’t like dogs until his wife Tracey converted him, he was passionate about his beloved pets. He loved to travel and enjoyed many vacations in Hawaii, Colorado, the Caribbean and Europe.
He had a special talent as a fudge maker and delighted all with giant batches of fudge, especially the ladies who fought over who got the most.
Randy was preceded in death by his parents and sister Mary. In addition to his wife Tracey Ball and pets Buddy and Chanuck, he is survived by his mother-in-law Mary Francis Ball; brother-in-law Jeb Ball and his family; daughters Tina (Nebraska), Nicole (Germany), and son Rick (Iowa); brothers Billy (Colorado), Richard (Arizona), and David (Iowa); and a host of friends. He adored his great nephew Isaac and great nieces Joey and Nia.
A memorial service will be held at 12:00 pm Saturday, January 21, 2012, at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines. A visitation will be held one-half hour prior to the service, with a luncheon following.
Memorials may be made in Randy’s honor to the American Cancer Society or Animal Lifeline.
