Al Edmond, 74, passed away Sunday, January 15, 2012 at Trinity Center. He was born February 12, 1937 in Des Moines to Robert and Ruth Edmond. He attended North High School and Iowa State University. Al entered into a partnership with Edmond & Paulsen Contractors. He married the love of his life, Maurine and together they had twin daughters, Sherry and Linda.

Al had many hobbies, including hunting and fishing for most of his life. He collected antique art glass for many years. He became interested in restoring cars, his pride and joy being a 1940 LaSalle and a 1932 Cadillac. He was very active in the Antique Auto Club of America. He served as President in 1987 and was on the board for many years. Al and Maurine traveled across the country attending car shows. Al judged nearly 300 shows nationwide and created a manual for judging.

Al and Maurine later joined the American Cut Glass Association and they held an exhibit for four months in 2003 at Iowa State University, giving talks and sharing their pieces. He soon expanded his collections to include tin advertising memorabilia, and organized a convention in Des Moines for other tin collectors. Al also had a passion for flowers. He decorated the backyard and deck with all kinds of flowers, including oriental lilies, and was a member of the Lily Society.

Al is survived by his wife of 53 years, Maurine; two daughters, Sherry (Dino) Rodish and Linda Edmond; and aunt, Esther Dockstader.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Antique Auto Club of America Museum, Inc. Endowment Fund, and sent to the family.
