Khamphao Onelangsy

January 15, 2012

Service Details

Khamphao Onelangsy was born into the Onelangsy family on April 4, 1940. He was the youngest of six children, five boys and one girl. After he completed his police academy training at Don Tiew Don Noun, he was assigned to work in the northern part of Laos where he met and married Michow Lio in 1959. She later became Thongsy Onelangsy.

Khamphao had continued his leadership education in three foreign countries. He traveled to Indonesia for leadership training in 1967, went to Fort Knox, Kentucky, for U.S. military training in 1969, and received a special training in Thailand in 1973.

Because Khamphao served in the Laotian Democratic Government and was a high ranking police officer in Laos, he was arrested by the Communist government when the Communist party took over the country of Laos in 1975. They sent him to the reeducation camp in the northern part of Laos.

When his mother died, he was allowed to come home for her funeral. Khamphao took that opportunity to escape from Laos to Thailand and was transferred to United States in 1983. He was a father of eight children, four boys and four girls, and became a grandfather of 17 grandchildren, nine boys and eight girls.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, January 21, 2012, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 1200 Walker Street. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Friday, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street.
