Evelyn M. Dark, 92, passed away January 11, 2012, at University Park Nursing Home.
Evelyn was born December 17, 1919, in Des Moines, to Emil and Anna Peterson. She was a member of Union Park United Methodist Church and enjoyed going on group trips with her friends from church. Evelyn loved to bake. She was also very crafty and enjoyed sewing, crocheting and needlepoint.
Evelyn is survived by her husband of 62 years, Lester; son, Duane and daughter-in-law, Deidre Dark; sisters, Edna Johnson and Dorothy Clark; grandchildren, Danielle, Devon and Dianna and her husband, Jonathon Ross; and great-grandson, Nolan.
Per her request, Evelyn’s body has been donated to the Anatomical Gift Program at the University of Iowa.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Union Park United Methodist Church.

Great Aunt Evelyn always had a warm smile for everyone. She was a person that was at all the family gatherings that were so important to her and everyone else. I loved to see her interaction she had with her sisters and her brother (my grandpa). They might have had different lives but still cared for each other and liked to tease each other.
We will be praying for you during this difficult time.

Uncle Lester, I am so very sorry about Evelyn's passing. I miss seeing both of you the last couple of Christmas's. I always ask how you are doing. I know that this must be a hard time for you, and want you to know that your family is here for you and we are thinking of you. If you need anything or would just like to visit, please give us a call. You can reach Micheal or I at 279-6061.
Aunt Evelyn was such a wonderful lady. I always loved talking with her and learning about all that she has done. She had a wonderful life with you and was very happy. I hope that you know that and realize how lucky you both are to have eachother. 62 years is such a blessing and quite impressive. I hope that Micheal and I can be with eachother for that long.
I just wanted to let you know that you are not alone and that we really miss you!! I will say a prayer for her and you! I hope to see you soon.

Aunt Evelyn had a very kind heart and never said no to anyone that needed her help. She was a great baker and she always had cookies, so if you stopped for coffee or just to say hi, well you got to enjoy those homemade cookies. I remember when they lived in Davenport and they owned the Dairy Queen, I loved to go and see them and learned to make those Curley Q tops on the top of the ice cream cones. Uncle Lester let me ride the tracker, and that was big stuff. I remember all the sisters and brothers getting together at the Peterson picinic and all the fun we had as a family. The Christmas's that we had all together and enjoyed everyones stories. I never thought of my aunts as getting older, as they were always there for me and I knew if I need anything I had them. She will be missed by all of us, but she will always be in my heart. Love you always.

I don't remember if Evelyn was one of the "bicycle girls" with my mom or not, since mom isn't here to ask anymore and my memory isn't the best! I do know the group of you, though, from Union Park UMC; I wish mom would've changed her membership to there - such fun!!! My sympathy to you at this time...Vivian Meyer's youngest daughter.

I have not seen Evelyn for years. I do rember how much fun I had at her house and the family picnic's at Grandview Park. I remember that she was always a pleasure to be around. She would brighten everyons day when she arrived. I know she will be missed by all who knew her.

Evelyn like my cousin Jim said was also a very important part of my life. I will always rember the family picnics at Grandview Park. She will be missed as she was always a loving and caring person.

Les,
I see that your wife has died and I want to express my sympathy to you and the family on her passing. The Lord has opened his arms to receive her in her heavenly home. I know you miss her presence but you have fond memories of your years together. Prayers are with you and the family during these sad days.
It was 26 year ago this month that we went to Panama together! Imagine!

Evelyn, like all my Dads Sisters, and Brothers, became a very special part in my growing up years. Being first Grand child of Grand Parents, Emil & Anna Peterson, was spoiled by Evelyn, and all the rest of my Dad's, siblings. The teriffic dinners enjoyed at Lester, and Evelyn's family home, will not be for gotten. Her sparkling smile will be missed by us all!
