Ramona "Helen" Garcia

Ramona (Helen) Garcia, 83, passed away January 10 in Des Moines. Visitation will be held at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, January 12, 2012, with the Rosary recited at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, 15 Indianola Ave, Des Moines at 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 13. Following the service, burial will occur at Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines.

Ramona is survived by her husband, Roman; brother, Robert Ramirez; Daughters, Linda Cushman, Paulette Berger, Romana Garcia, and Lidia (Richard) Brown; sons, Lenis (Mary) Hart, Jess Hart and David Hart; step-children, Dolores Garcia, Vickie Garcia and Ernie Garcia as well as 20 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren.

She was born on February 28, 1928 and spent her entire life in Des Moines. She worked at Mercy Hospital for 28 years and retired in 1991. Ramona loved to cook, dance and entertain with friends and family, which was so big that she simply referred to everyone as mijo and mija.

Ramona was preceded in death by her parents, Mary and Sabas Ramirez; Siblings, Ralph Ramirez, Virginia Ramirez and Zenida Ramirez; Great Grandson, Samuel John Aceto.
