Loretta Roe Myrick passed away Tuesday, January 10, 2012, at Bright Kavanagh in Des Moines. She was born on July 8, 1914, in Des Moines to Ora and Emmett Roe.
She lived in Boone and worked as the Boone County Deputy Treasurer. She had one child, Beverly Belle. She married Lloyd Myrick in 1948 and together they built homes in Boone. In 1958 they moved to Gainesville, FL, where they were home builders. In 1972 they moved to Cedar Key, FL, where Loretta was a real estate broker until Lloyd’s death in 1983. After living in Hawaii and California, she moved back to Des Moines in 1995. She was a Foster Grandparent at Park Avenue Elementary School for over five years. In 1998, Loretta moved to Wakonda Manor Apartments.
Loretta is survived by her grandchildren, Matt (Janice) Carpenter and Michelle (Garfield) Hinds; four great-grandchildren, Cynnamon, Joseph, Daniel and Jaiden; two nieces, Barbara (Charles) Westburg and Laurie Roe.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lloyd; her daughter, Beverly; brother Loren; niece, Sandi and two great-grandsons.
A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 14, 2012, at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. A visitation will begin an hour prior to the service.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Central Iowa.

A great honor it was to have known and been love by grandma who had such a genuine love that reflected the love of God. Only few I have found in this life to have such love Lorretta had this and through her was the love of God. I am anxious for the day that I will see her again and to have another one of her hugs in a place where it's so grand so beautiful so much peace and love it's more than one can describe. My Grandma Lorretta will be there.

I had the pleasure of spending time with Loretta every thursday afternoon , in my salon . Besides styling her beautiful hair ,we discussed many things ,most often her deep faith in GOD.She so inspired me for her sincere love of people which came from her love of GOD.She spoke so highly of You , her family ,which she love dearly.We will miss her dearly ,she will never be forgotten. I'm sending a donation to Hospice of Central Iowa .My prayers are with you all.

I will always remember the times we went to Florida to visit great Aunt Loretta.I had so much fun fishing with her in the Gulf of Mexcio.Also after I was "born again" how she encouraged me to live for God and she always wanted to know how I was doing.She is truly one of God's children.I'm glad that by God's grace we'll meet again in the presence of our Lord.
Matthew you took good care of your grandma, thank you for that.I hope and pray that God will comfort both of you and your families.

This world has suffered a great loss with Loretta's passing. She was such a blessing to so many. Even when we visited her in the hospital in December, her concern was what the Lord had next for her to do. Loretta was always focused on the needs of others. She assured us that she was ready to be with the Lord, but was open to serving Him, even if it meant from a hospital bed or wheel chair. We have no doubt that she heard the words, "Well done, good and faithful servant." as she entered heaven. We will miss her greatly. Our deepest condolences to the family--she spoke of you often and with great love.
