Dennis Lee Murchison

Dennis Lee Murchison passed away on Saturday, December 31, 2011, at his home. He was born on March 7, 1941, to Verda and Armond Murchison.

He graduated from Lincoln High School and attended Grandview College. He enjoyed playing football, basketball and baseball. He married Mary Jane Williams in May of 1970. To this marriage three children were born: Jana, Aaron and Lisa. Dennis had coached little league for a time, and as his children got involved, he coached and refereed soccer for Southridge Soccer Club, and tried never to miss the children’s games, whether they were local, or Jana’s games with Grinnell College. Dennis was a machinist by trade retiring after 32 years at Eagle Iron Works. He was a licensed Ham radio operator in his early years. He enjoyed camping, and for a time, making and flying model airplanes.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 5, 2012, at Indianola Heights Christian Church, 3139 SE 8th Street, with a visitation to begin an hour prior. A burial will follow the service at Sunset Memory Gardens.

Dennis is survived by his wife, Mary Jane; his daughters, Jana (Alan) Thomas and Lisa (Todd) Collins; his grandchildren, Skylar Kate and William Aaron; his sister, Norma Murchison; his brother, Ronald Murchison; an aunt, many cousins and good friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Verda and Armond, and his son Aaron.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Indianola Heights Christian Church or the Wesley Adult Day Care in honor of Dennis.
