As 2011 comes to a close, I fondly remember the New Years parties at the Nielsen's farm. Growing up I remember that my sister's and I would always look forward to spending that special time with Marjean and Diane. Those memories will always be special because they are the memories of childhood. We grew up , went to school, went to work , got married , raised families, and lived life. Through all of it our parents remained close.
Heaven has gained a special angel. My prayer is for peace and comfort for all of us hurting over the loss of Marjean , she was very special.

Dr. Reed & Family,
So sorry to hear about Marjean's passing. Marjean was a wonderful woman. She was a fabulous teacher and to everyone who was lucky enough to know her at DMU. I will always remember her fondly, even though she was always on us residents to get to the lab in time!! She will be missed by all.

Dear Ken,
I did not know or have the pleasure of an acquaintance with Marjean but through your caring, compassionate heart I am of the belief that I missed a beautiful opportunity to grow personally and emotionally. I wanted to personally thank Marjean and her family for all she taught me at Des Moines University. I graduated in 2009 and have never forgotten all she taught me about surgery. She personally helped me learn to tie surgical knots, all of which I use almost everyday as an orthopedic resident. I was complimented as a medical student for my surgical knowledge, the majority of which I attribute to her. I continue to teach medical students working with me with the same patience and grace she had with me, still using some of the teaching techniques she used with me. I truly do give my thanks. I will do my best to continue to teach medical students and resident with the patience and grace she showed to me. I will never forget it. Thank you.

Marjean was one of those "special people" you rarely meet and that the world needs more of. I am grateful to have known Marjean. Wherever she is, I know she is smiling.

My heart breaks for Marjean's family. She was a wonderful lady, gracious in everything she did. We can rejoice that she is now pain free, but will all miss her warmth and love. May God bring comfort and peace to her family as you take the time to reflect and celebrate the life she lived and the legacy of love she leaves behind. Keeping her family in my prayers.

We are so sorry for your great loss. We have some very fond memories with Marjean- of water skiing at the lake, golfing, swimming in their pool, watching her run the hurdles in high school and again at ISU, and just enjoying our families together. She stayed with us, in Lake View, in 1978, and she drove to Sioux City each day for her nursing classes, from our home.
Marjean leaves 3 wonderful kids, which we will continue to love and support.
Heaven must have needed a good nurse, and chose Marjean.

I will miss Marjean so much! I looked forward to the days she was in her office just to hear her laughter. I will always remember her infectious smile, frequent laughter and warm heart.
We talked frequently and I'll miss those conversations. Her family was very important to her and we loved exchanging news about our kids and sharing photos of various family occasions. I keep saying this but, I'll really miss that.
I take some comfort in knowing that she is now out of pain. However, all of us live in a world now that's a little less bright and warm because she's no longer with us. Her legacy of warmth, love and courage will live in our hearts. We will meet again someday and I'll have a big hug for her then!
