Bruce Gibbs

Bruce Gibbs, 66, passed away December 27, 2011, after a long and stubborn battle with multiple myeloma cancer. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 31, at 10 a.m., at Faith Lutheran Church, 10395 University Avenue in Clive. Visitation will be Friday, December 30 from 5 to 7 p.m., at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines.

Bruce was born in Chicago, IL, on February 7, 1945. He grew up in the Chicago area and graduated from Northern Illinois University with a degree in accounting. He was also designated as a CPA. Bruce spent his career as an accountant and controller for various publicly and privately held corporations. After retirement, he worked as a consultant. In 1984 Bruce married the love of his life, Marilyn. They enjoyed traveling and spending time with family. Bruce was a character, not your typical accountant. He was the life of the party and lit up a room and everyone in it. He was a terrific grandfather and loved spending time with his grandsons, hence the reason for the relocation to Des Moines. In addition the entire family traveled to Walt Disney World for a memory filled vacation. Bruce enjoyed Golf, and was a life long Cubs and Bears fan.

He will be greatly missed by his wife, Marilyn; son, Jeff (Sara) Kynion; daughter, Jennifer Lowright; sisters, Joyce Morgan and Jeanne Visk; grandsons, Tyler and Cody Kynion; and numerous nieces and nephews. Bruce was preceded in death by his parents, Douglas and Camille; and his sister, Diane DePaul.
