Service Details
Dale Crawford, 70, passed away on Monday, December 19, 2011 at Kavanagh on 56th. Services will be Thursday, December 22 at 11 a.m. at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
Dale was born on March 11, 1941 in Rockwell, IA to Harry and Helen Crawford, along with twin brother Dennis. Dale grew up in Hampton, IA. In high school he excelled in track, was the Secretary of his senior class, and was active in FFA as a chapter leader. In 1960 he married his high school sweetheart, Avon Allen and to that union son Michael was born. The family moved to Des Moines and Dale worked for John Deere for 30 years, he loved “the green”; and 17 years for S&C Automotive. Dale had a passion for golf, playing and watching, and vowed to haunt a few of the sand traps that haunted him. In 2001 he married Sandy Aschim. Together they enjoyed many happy years traveling and attending Iowa Hawkeye football games and the Drake Relays.
He will be greatly missed by his wife, Sandy Crawford; son, Michael (Kelley) Crawford; grandchildren, Elizabeth and Alexandra; brothers, Richard (Jean) Crawford, Roger (Sheryl) Crawford; step-daughter, Tina (Rich) Coggeshall; step-sons, Tim and Michael (Diane) Underwood; step-grandchildren, Michael, Page, Johanna, Justin, Angela, Jordan and Shannon; sister-in-law, Connie Crawford; and many nieces, nephews and other extended family. Dale was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Dennis.

Sandy and family,
Just learned of Dales's passing and when I worked with him at S & C Automotive he always had a smile on his face and a good word for any one that asked. He will be greatly missed! You and your family will be in my prayers during this time of year.

I would like to express my condolences to Sandy and the rest of Dales family. I was a classmate of Dales at Hampton and a fellow class officer. The last time I had a chance to visit with him was at our class reunion in 2009. I remember he always had a big smile for everyone he met. Dales accomplishments on the track team are legendary. He and Dennis helped the team to finish second at the state meet and set many school records which stood for years. He will be greatly missed by his classmates.

My condolences to the Crawford family.
Dale and Dennis were high school class mates of mine.I can not talk or think about Dale without not also thinking the same about Dennis. Two wonderful guys.
Honest, sincere, fun, always with a smile. Oh! Has any body said that Dale was a faster runner than Dennis. Or was it the other way around. They were both the best track men that Hampton High had ever had.
High school memerys' last a long time.

Mike, Kelley & girls, So sorry to learn of your loss. While the last few weeks were difficult, we're thankful you were able to be there & spend time with your father & grandfather. We will miss our dear brother Dale who has gone to be with his soul mate Dennis. What a wonderful life story they could tell. They will be missed by this wonderful family & so many friends. RIP Brother Dale & give Dennis a big loving hug from his little brother & sister. We miss you already!

Dale, you have been an amazing grandpa. It was awesome learning the game of golf and getting to enjoy many rounds with you. I couldn't have asked for a better grandpa. I'm going to miss you, and i love you very much.

What a wonderful man. I feel so blessed that he was a part of my life if even for a short time. Go Rest High on That Mountain Dale. We love you and will miss you but your memory will remain forever! Diane
