Mary Ellen (Ahlberg) Cutler, 86, died on December 19, 2011, at Taylor House in Des Moines. She was born to Stella (Harkin) and Elmer Ahlberg.

Raised on the south side, she graduated top of her class at Lincoln High School with many honors. She married Harry Cutler and raised three children after his death in 1962.

Mary Ellen retired from the Prouty Insurance Company as a bookkeeper. She had a love for sewing and later quilting. Many loving quilts were given to friends and relatives along with raffling her prize quilt for charity. She enjoyed being a volunteer whenever her skills were needed by others. Many hours were spent helping “ARC” and her son Patrick’s “Striker” bowling league as well as the “Star Spangled Swingers” square dancers at many events. Spending time with her “quilt group” ladies along with making her famous chicken & noodles were just a few of her favorite things to do. She was a life long member of Christ the King Church, an active member of the Altar & Rosary Society and a member of St. Vincent De Paul Society.

She is survived by her three children, David Michael (Dianne) Cutler from Carrollton, TX., Susan Ellen (Charles) Lincoln of Des Moines, and Patrick Kevin Cutler at home; five grandchildren, Steven Cutler and Teresa Cutler-Green of Texas, Rebecca Moredock, Ross Lincoln and Lisa Lincoln of Des Moines; her precious eight great-grandchildren; her brothers, Richard and Robert Ahlberg of Des Moines; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Harold and Ralph Ahlberg.

A funeral mass will be held at 12 p.m. on Friday, December 23, 2011, at Christ the King Catholic Church. Visitation will begin at the church at 11 a.m. Friday with a rosary to begin at 11:45 a.m. A burial will follow the service at Glendale Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Christ the King Altar and Rosary Society in loving memory of Mary Ellen.
