Service Details

John Anthony Sposeto, Sr., passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 18, 2011, at home, surrounded by his wife and children. A funeral service will be 10 a.m. Thursday, December 22, 2011, at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street, with burial following at Glendale Cemetery. A visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, December 21, with an American Legion service beginning at 5 p.m., a Society of Italian American service at 5:15 p.m., a eulogy service at 5:30 p.m. and a rosary service at 6 p.m. at the funeral home.

John was born on November 1, 1914, in Des Moines, to Frank and Victoria Sposeto. John met the love of his life, Anne Griglione, and they flourished together for 65 years. To this union they were blessed with five children.

John was a WWII and Korean War Veteran where he served proudly in the Navy. He retired as a crew chief for the city of Des Moines Public Works Department, after 32 years of service. He was a member of Bellizzi MacRae American Legion Post 659. He also belonged to the Society of Italian Americans.

John is survived by his wife Anne; his children, Frank (Rose) Sposeto, Maria (Harry) Seals, John Jr. (Tammie) Sposeto, Mike (Christie) Sposeto, Tom (Christy) Sposeto; his fifteen grandchildren; his twenty-five great grandchildren; his brother, Mickey; his sisters, Mary, Tressa, Rosa, Cathy; a very special niece, Dee Dee Underwood and many other nephews and nieces. John was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Pat and his sisters, Caroline, Angela and Isabell.
