Sylvester R. Martinez

Sylvester Ramirez Martinez, 94, passed away on Friday, December 16, 2011, at home under the loving care of his daughter, Patty Martinez Lozano.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, December 21, 2011, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, followed by burial at Glendale Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, at the funeral home.

Sylvester was born November 17, 1917, to Antiona and Preciliano Martinez. He worked for the Rock Island, Chicago, and Great Northern Railroads until he retired in 1979. He proudly served his country in the Army and was a member of the American Legion’s Hispanic Post 731.

Sylvester is survived by his daughter, Patty (Sergio Zavala) Martinez Lozano; step-daughters, Barbara Lozano, Mary Flemming, and Lupe Rincon; four sisters, Mary Haschall, Angie Martin, Phyllis (Ron) Macken, and Josephine (Richard) Wilts; four brothers, Daniel, Henry, Johnny, Milton Jr. (Paula) Martinez; 18 grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, Helen; son, Sylvester Jr.; parents; four brothers; two sisters; and two great-granddaughters.
