John "Bob" Erickson, Sr.

John “Bob” Erickson, Sr., passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 11, 2011, at the University Park Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Des Moines. He was born on February 19, 1920, in Waterville, MN,.to John and Catherine Erickson.

John lived most of his adult life in the Des Moines area. He married Kathryn McCusker in 1946, and they were married 59 years until her passing in 2005. To this union they were blessed with four children.

John was a WW II veteran and served his country loyally and proudly in the United States Air Force for over 28 years. He was a 4th degree Knight of the Knights of Columbus. He also belonged to the American Legion and the Kiwanis.

He is survived by his children, Patricia (Richard) Campbell, John (Judi) Erickson, Jr., Susan (Art) Medley and Eileen (Charles) Hamilton; his ten grandchildren; and his fifteen great-grandchildren.

John was preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn; his parents; and his brother and his wife, Don and Connie Erickson.

A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, December 16, 2011, at Christ the King Catholic Church, with burial to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Family will greet friends on Thursday, December 15, from 5 to 7 p.m., at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street, with a vigil to begin at 6 p.m.
