Mary Eva Carpenter

Mary Eva Carpenter, 104, passed away peacefully Wednesday, December 7, 2011, at the Mitchellville Care Center. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, December 9, 2011, at the Runnells Christian Church, 309 Brown Street, followed by burial at Lowman Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.

Eva was born October 11, 1907, to Eston and Ella Downs. She was the youngest of seven children and was raised in Mitchellville. Eva attended cosmetology school and graduated on April 8, 1927. Shortly after, she opened a beauty shop in Prairie City. Eva married Elmer Carpenter in 1928 and moved to Runnells. They had one son, Bruce. They loved to dance and entered many marathon contests.

Eva was very musical and enjoyed entertaining all over central Iowa for many years with the kitchen band, The Runnells Kountry Cut Ups. She was a member of Runnells Christian Church and enjoyed attending the Runnells Senior Center.

Eva is survived by her son, Bruce; special friend, Jeanne Beck; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; five sisters; one brother; and grandson, Ricky.
