Donald Jones

Donald Russell Jones, 91, passed away Wednesday, December 7, 2011, at Norwalk Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Donald was born September 19, 1920, in Des Moines to Carl and Lena (Hagg) Jones. He attended North High School and married Pauline Lumley February 3, 1940. Donald served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1945. He worked in the auto collision industry for 47 years, retiring from American Family Insurance in 1986. Donald enjoyed bowling, watching horse races and various other sports, especially boxing and baseball. He had been a member of Grace Baptist Church since 1955.

Donald is survived by his wife, Pauline; daughters, Norma (Chuck) Buchanan, JoAnn (Barry) Hesse and Barb Presti; grandchildren, Charles (Valinda) Buchanan, Mark (Becky) Buchanan, Steve (Liz) Winders, Brad Sawhill, Linda Anderson and Susie (Terry) Williams; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl Jones and Lena McChurch; daughter, Rosemary Sawhill; grandsons, Gary David Eilbert and Paul Buchanan; brother, Raymond Jones; and his son-in-law, Ray Presti.

The family will greet friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, December 9, 2011, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street. A graveside service will follow at 1:30 p.m., at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army or Iowa Health Home Care and Hospice.
