Dorothy Jean Lorey departed this life on December 6, 2011, surrounded by those who loved her.
Dorothy or “Jean” as she was known was born on August 11, 1932, to Floyd and Ruby Walker. She was raised in Des Moines and attended Roosevelt High School.
Jean had a passion for making crafts. A passion she passed on to her grandkids. She loved sports, especially baseball. Jean was a long suffering Cubs fan. She also loved her Hawkeyes.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Richard Walker, Bill “Bing” Walker, James Walker and Floyd Walker, Jr. who was killed in action over Europe in 1944. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 20 years, Carl Lorey.
Jean leaves behind her daughters, Sandi (Don) Morris of Omaha, NE, Pam Ritcheson, Terri (Jim) Shaw and Wendy (Todd) Cosner all of Des Moines; sons, Douglas Lorey of Des Moines and Dennis (Randi) Baber of California; 15 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
The family will greet friends from 11 am to 12 p.m. Saturday, December 10, 2011, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, followed by a graveside service at 1 p.m. at Rising Sun Cemetery.

We were very sadden when we heard about your Mothers Passing. I always liked talking to her and she always made us fill right at home. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you in this sadden time. Please remember her always and cherish your memories you all have. She was a remarkable woman.

I will always have wonderful memories of Aunt Jean and her kindness to me both as a child and an adult. She was a wonderful and gracious human being. My best childhood memories are of visiting my cousins on the east side in the old house off of E. University.
I was saddened to hear of her passing this week.
