Mildred Akers

Mildred I. Akers, 88, of Des Moines went to her heavenly home on Thursday, May 3, 2007 at her home in Des Moines. Funeral services will be at 1:00 P.M. Monday at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home with burial following at Sunset Memorial Gardens. The family will greet friends from 5-7 P.M. Sunday evening at the funeral home.
Mildred was born on December 25, 1918 in Lacona, Iowa and was a member of the Indianola Heights Evangelical Free Church. She worked at the ordinance plant in Ankeny during WWII and retired from the Maurice’s Distribution Center. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, playing board games, shopping, traveling and visiting with friends. She also enjoyed the company of her dog Peggy.
She is survived by her two children Patricia (Clyde) Fry of Des Moines and Patrick Akers of Lantana, Florida as well as four grandchildren and many close friends.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Indianola Heights Evangelical Free Church or the Iowa Health Hospice Taylor House.
