Leta G. Pilcher, 98, passed away Tuesday, May 1 at Mercy Capitol Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 11 am Saturday at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street. Visitation will be held 6 to 8pm Friday at Hamilton's
Leta was born December 19, 1908 in Vail, IA to Alice and Elwin Chamberlin. Leta was employed by WT Dahl as a cashier for many years. Leta was a longtime member of Calvary Baptist Church and a 80 yr. member of North Gate Chapter #417 Order of the Eastern Star . One of Leta’s greatest loves were the countless hours she spent volunteering at Des Moines General Hospital. Leta enjoyed meeting and talking with patients and their families, and was known as the “Hug Lady”. She was featured in several Des Moines Register articles for her volunteering efforts. Leta enjoyed playing cards and called Bingo for many years. Leta loved spending time with her family and looked forward to family activities with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Many people who knew Leta will miss her smile and her gentle ways.
Leta is survived by her daughter, Marilyn (Ed) Lack of Des Moines, her four grandchildren, Randy, Sherry, Debbie and Alan; her five great grandchildren, Ashley, Melissa, Madison, Joshua and Ian. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hillard and five brothers.
Memorials are suggested to Calvary Baptist Church in loving memory of Leta.
