Mary Owens

Mary Catherine (Miller) Owens, 97, of Des Moines died on Sunday, November 20, 2011, at Parkridge Care Center in Pleasant Hill. She was born at home on December 26, 1913, to Charles and Maggie (Linnane) Miller.

She attended school in Adelphi. She married Donovan McCall Owens of Runnells and the couple had three children. Mary held various jobs during her lifetime, with Hertzberg Book Bindery being her last place of employment. She was a member of Union Park Baptist Church as well as being a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Don; her son, Bill Thomas Owens; her parents; and her seven siblings, Lora Gernert, Thomas Miller, Earl Miller, Robert Miller, William Miller, Margaret Miller, and Doris Houser.

Mary is survived by her son, Richard Owens of Runnells; her daughter, Maggie Doetkott of Cornucopia, Wisconsin; her grandchildren, Jason (Mary) Owens and Patrick (Peggy) Owens, both of Pleasant Hill; Lori Owens of Denver, Colorado; Mary Owens of Cardiff, Wales; and Catherine Mary Doetkott of Boulder, Colorado; as well as five great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

A private graveside service and interment will be at Laurel Hill Cemetery, with arrangements being provided by Hamilton’s Funeral Home.
