Virginia Barker, 61, passed away at her home surrounded by her loving family Wednesday, November 16, 2011 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born April 23, 1950 in Des Moines to Edward and Virginia Kosman.
Virginia is survived by her husband of 42 years, Ray; children, Jason Barker, Kim (Troy) Powell and Sara (Adam) Keller; grandchildren, Dylan, Maya, Dalton, Emma and Caitlyn; brother, Bernard; sisters, Patty, Joyce, Marilyn, Kathryn, Karen, Mary and Madonna; numerous nieces and nephews; and many loving family members and wonderful friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; twin brothers, James and Joseph; sister, Darlene; and niece, Jessica.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, November 20, 2011 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St.
Memorial contributions may be made to Smile Train, 41 Madison Ave., 28th Floor, New York, NY 10010 or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Ray,
My sympathy and prayers go out to you and your family. I met Virginia only a couple of times, she seemed like such a supportive and caring person. I am sorry to hear that she passed Ray, thinking of you and your fammily.

I am so sorry for your loss, Virginia is such a great person and I always enjoyed talking with her. She was such a wonderful friend to my mother. I remember her always being so helpful and full of laughs in the office. And of course for putting up with me when I worked with her.

Ray, Jason, Kim and Sara, I was so saddened when Phyllis called to tell me Ginny had passed away. I had thought of her many times in the past year and kept meaning to get in touch with her. I had no idea she had been ill. I have learned now NOT to mean-to...just do it!
Ginny ("mean Aunt Ginny" because she made them pick up after themselves, lol, to Kaity and Cody, our children) was such a cherished mentor to me at Zee and friend in my life. She was always there for me-to talk, laugh, even watch the kids when I started having panic attacks. She loved you all so much and was so proud of you. I imagine she made a wonderful grandma and I know she looked forward to that role even 20 years ago!
I have pictures of the two business trips we took to San Diego in 1995 and 1996 that I just have to find! I don't ever want to forget her beautiful, contagious smile or that mischievous look she got in her eye (especially when it was time to pull a prank on Stuart Hall.)
You know how great Ginny was and you know she will always be with you.
Be there for each other and celebrate the holidays with more fever than usual...she'd have wanted you to!
My thoughts and prayers are with you all. I hope to see you Sunday at her service to see the amazing people you have grown to be!

Ray and Family: Your whole family is in our thoughts and prayers. So sorry for your loss.
We all know what a sweet, nice, loving mother, wife, friend, sister she was and it was a
privilege to know her! Larry and I will be in DsM for the Thanksgiving weekend so hoping
it won't be too much of an imposition to see you at that time. I don't think we will be able to make it on Sunday for the services. Talk to you soon. Take Care.
