Frederick Horst Geitz, went to be with the Lord Monday, November 14, 2011. Fred was born in Barmen-Ebberfeld, Germany, on September 16, 1925.
His family moved to the United States in 1927. He graduated from East High School, completed his Teaching Degree at Drake, and received his Bachelor’s Degree from North Dakota State.
He married his high school sweetheart, Norma Jean Little in 1945. He was a teacher at Warren Harding Jr. High for 30 years. He was a World War II Veteran in the United States Army Air Corps.
Fred loved the outdoors. He enjoyed fishing, boating and golfing.
Memorial services will be 1 p.m., Thursday, November 17, 2011, at Capitol City Baptist Church, 5990 NE 14th Street, Des Moines, with a private family burial at Laurel Hill Cemetery.
Fred is survived by his wife, Norma Jean; daughter, Lynne Nath; son, Garth (Sue) Geitz; granddaughter, Michelle Lester; grandsons, Garth Geitz, Jr. and Greg (Pam) Geitz; great-grandchildren, Nicole, Grayson, Logan, Brody and Gavin; and his sister, Shirley Reed of California.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family in loving memory of Fred.

I had Mr. Geitz for my home room teacher at Warren Harding. I have never forgotten him. What a wonderful teacher and human being. So sorry to hear he is gone. But his memory will go on and on .. God Bless his family in this time.

I was sorry to hear of Fred's passing. I enjoyed his humor and advice as a teacher at Warren Harding many years ago. God bless Fred.

I had Mr. Geitz when I was a student at Harding, that was back in the early 60s. I always recalled him as one of my favorite teachers. He was interesting and friendly to me. He was one of those teachers who made a difference to all he taught. He will be missed.

With deepest sympathy. I have fond memories of Mr. Geitz as my seventh grade geography teacher at Harding Junior High in the early 1970's. He was stern but seemed to have a rather jolly soul as well. I'm sorry to hear of his passing.
