Glenda McFarland, 66, of Des Moines, Iowa died on November 12, 2011.
She was born on April 5, 1945 in Des Moines, the daughter of Glenn and Mildred (Green) McFarland. She was raised by Wayne and Annabelle Lamberson. Glenda was an excellent bass player, chef and artist.
Glenda is survived by her soul mate, Shirley Hanlin; children, Don (Sue) Hanlin, Patty (Toby) Jessen and David Hanlin; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; brother John (Di) Hamilton; sisters, Wanda (Jake) Sawaleky and Dixie (Ted) Millard, nephew, David (April) Lafray who was her rock and many other nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Joyce Gillespie and Connie Blanchard.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 17, 2011 at 1 p.m. from Lee Town Assembly of God Church, 2720 State Street in Des Moines. Burial will follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery.
A memorial has been established in loving memory of Glenda. Contributions may be made at the church.

My sympathy to you from one of Glenda's many care providers-
I remember Glenda well, and from time to time over the years wondered how you both were....I know now that she is home. What a nice picture-she had a great smile.

Dear Aunt Shirley,
Glenda was one of the sweetests persons I have ever met. She endured so much pain and discomfort with a great smile, kind words, appreciation and dignity. She was always ready for a nice conversation as well as asking how were the family and children doing. Her spirit and example of how to live on this world will always be present. May you find comfort and strength on the wonderful memories we know you have. God is with you and we are with you sharing your sadness. But we know Glenda is with you and with us because her love is too great to leave us completely.

Shirley,I am so sorry I wasn't there with you,Glenda was one of the good ones,I know she's in heaven looking down at us.She's is with all our friends playing poker,and waiting on us to join in,like she always use to do.I like the picture of her,looks very familiar.Remember the time we were installing her CB antennae??She got us good..I will always love you both and I will miss talking with Glenda about my problems..your friends,Judy and Mary Smith

Shirley, I send you my deepest sympathy at this time. Glenda is with God now and I know she is in a much better place now. I was so glad that I got to see Glenda at Buds service a few months back. God bless you Shirley and to all of Glenda's family. Sincerely Dan Richardson.
