Service Details

Richard D. Kline, 61, marched into Heaven with his new knees on Saturday, November 12, 2011. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, November 16, 2011, at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street, with burial following at 12:30 p.m. at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter. A visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, at the funeral home.

Richard was born Friday, October 13, 1950 in Chariton, Iowa, to Thomas Bryan and Doris Fern (Bingham) Kline. Dick grew up on Des Moines’ southside and graduated from Lincoln High School. He married Linda Kay Culver on May 25, 1983, and together they raised six children. During his life he served in the Air Force and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He spent many years coaching SDM Little League and taking care of the facilities. He assisted his brother, George with coaching the Lincoln baseball team. After 25 years of dedication to Bridgestone Firestone Company, he retired. He also held the office of divisional chairman of the United Rubber Workers Local #310. Before his passing, he was employed with Western Village Mobile Home Park. Dick was an active member of the Fraternal Brotherhood of the Eagle’s Lodge #109. He was an avid Hawkeyes, Raiders, Beach Boys and John Wayne fan. He loved playing golf, but his greatest joy in life was spending quality time with his grandchildren. He was always there for anyone at anytime.

Dick is survived by his wife, Linda Kay; children, Bryan T., Michelle M. Law, Richard D. (Angelique), Jaime L., Kimberly K., Aaron D.; grandchildren, Cassie, Caitlin, Brayden, Jordan, Bentley, Ethan, McKenna, Richard Dylan, Anneliese, John; daughters-in-law, Christina Kline, Danielle Clark; siblings, Leora (Delano) Johnston, Josephine (Richard) Ace, George (Joyce) Kline, David Kline, Cynthia (Nick) Miller, Pamela Kline and many family, friends and other extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Shirley and her husband Darrell Saffell; brother, James Nosky and grandson, Colby Law-Allison.
