Glenwood Carter

Glendwood Carter, 75, passed away Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at Iowa Methodist Hospital.

Visitation will be held Thursday, November 17, 2011 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Hamilton’s Funeral Home 605 Lyon St. Burial of cremated remains will be held Friday at 9:30 a.m. at Iowa Veteran’s Cemetery.

Glenwood was born March 18, 1936 to Vern and Lois (Kinney) Carter. He grew up in Des Moines before enlisting in the United States Marine Corp in 1953. Glen served most of his 20 year career in California earning the rank of Gunnery Sergeant. After retiring Glen began to drive truck and was a member of the VFW Post 9668.

Survivors include his children, Mike (Paula) Carter, Frank Carter, and Teresa (Mike) Dickey; six grandchildren; siblings, Shirley Wilkinson, Tom Carter, Patricia Dunlop, John (Betty) Carter, Sandy Courtney Emery, Pamela (Bob) Dingman; and many nieces, nephews, and other extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents.
